TRAGUL   INTERNATIONAL SYMPHONIC AND POWER METAL PROJECT Band Questions answer by ADRIAN BENEGAS
Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly? Hello Haschis Metal Corner! This is Adrian Benegas, keyboardist and founder of TRAGUL. We are a six-member project and each member came from a different band and place in the world. Zuberoa Aznarez (vocals) from Diabulus in Musica, Diego Bogarín (Guitars), Steve Conley (Guitars), Oliver Holzwarth (Bass), Sander Zoer (Drums).   What does the band name mean and how do you get it? TRAGUL is a name I got from a dream, at that time I was thinking all day about a great and unique word to name my new musical project and somehow it resonated somewhere in the universe, I think. So the word came within a dream, it was like my soul gave it to me as a gift. TRAGUL represents the connection between the divine soul and the human heart through the music.   Where and how was the band founded? TRAGUL was founded back in 2016 after I parted from another project. I needed to keep doing music so a few months after I left the other band I started to write some music and contacted the guys to work with me. As I am from Paraguay, we can say that the band base is here but as I mentioned above, we all are from different countries, Spain, Neetherlands, USA, Germany and Paraguay.   Have you played in other bands before? Yes I have but they were like a laboratories in which I experimented and learnt a lot before creating TRAGUL and now my solo project. Pergana (2008 to 2011) and Abracadabra (2015 to 2016), both indedependent.   Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band? Well, not really. The guys are very professional and open minded, all of them come from a different metal style but as they are great artists, they have apported their own touch to TRAGUL so we created something diverse. It’s great for me to have diversity, we can work easily despite of the distance between us.   What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ? All are based on dreams and experiences taken with esoteric optics. All the songs have a deep meaning inside the lyrics. I always try to drain my own feelings and also give something useful to the people, something they could be connected with and maybe understand their own doubts with the music. I believe music is a great tool to instrospect ourselves and understand our own things connecting with the artist's feelings.   Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard a sound from you? I can talk about my own influences, for example Rhapsody, Stratovarius, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica with their original line up. It’s a shame that those bands changed their original members and mutated their sound. Well, of course, there are a lot of people who likes them more now but I choose those bands on their first period, until 2006 :P   And TRAGUL is a mix of Power metal (The Message, The Tree of Life), a little bit of Symphonic (My Last words) and Gothic metal (Inside the Mirror) to sum up but if you listen carefully there are a lot of diverse elements, like thrash metal riffs (Bennu), very melodic guitars (Before I say Goodbye), a little bit of progressive metal (Into the Heart of the Sun), and even a little bit of filmscore, like the cover version of the Netflix’s series DARK that we released last year. We have lyrics in english and spanish too, so I am sure that people who is listenting to our songs for the first time will like them    Why should people listen to our music? Because TRAGUL has its own essence, that you can only find on our songs. As we came each other from different metal styles, we have elements that make our songs unique and true.   Since your foundation in 2016, you have released nine single songs. Why did you choose this form of release? Well, I always wanted to do something different from other artists and I found a good way to stay connected with the fans during the year, like releasing songs in a period of three months each one, with a visual support and also taking advantage of this digital/visual Era, in which everything is connected and working on the internet. You can have your own playlist on your phone, choosing only your favourite songs from the artists you love, and so on. I think, the song by song format is something new into metal and I am proud to implement it, specially because the fans are accepting it positively.   Are you planning to release a complete album for the future or will we continue to hear only singels? Who knows. Everything is open, we are comfortable with this format but if we feel the need to make an album, we will do it.   How long will it take for the songs to finish and how is the production going? Since the release of THE HUMMINGBIRD, we are taking a little breath to release something because I am focused and working on a parallel project in which I have male vocals, to be precise, I count with the great voice of RALF SCHEEPERS from Primal Fear on it, nevertheless I am working on new songs for Tragul on my free time, we are working on some demos with Diego and Zuberoa. So, I hope soon we’ll release something new  Also, Zuberoa is working with her band DIABULUS IN MUSICA on their new album. We will have a lot of music this year!   Just short of production since the singel The Tree of Life from the years 2017, the singels are produced by Jacob Hansen. How did you get in contact with him and is he meanwhile something like your seventh band member? Jacob is a truly artist. I’ve never thought this way but I think you’re right  He is like the seventh member from 2017, yes, the only possible producer for us right now. His work is wonderful and he knows perfectly what I want for the songs. It’s fantastic to have the best artists working with me, and he is one of them    Oliver Holzwarth is since the beginning part of the band on the first four singels was also his brother alex part of the band. Why is he not there anymore and how was working with him? Abracadabra and now Tragul. Alex and I are still in contact but in 2018 he needed to focus himself on the massive reunion tour of his band Rhapsody and we couldn't "fix" the agendas to record the drums with him. And now, he is playing again with them, as you may know, Rhapsody’s original members started a new project called Turilli/Lione Rhapsody, recently.    How far have you been with new songs and what are the next plans with the band? I have a few new songs for Tragul but they are on the demos stage at this moment, as I mentioned, we are working slowly with Zube and Diego. As always, we’ll release more songs and videos very soon.   What is your favorite song from the band and why is that? All of them are special for me, all of them have a important meaning, I can’t choose one to be honest.   Do you plan to appear live in the future? Yes, we would love to play our songs and meet the fans on a metal party! Of course! It’s a future goal on Tragul.   How have the reactions to your music been so far from the fans of the press and the labels? Very good, we had a lot of interviews on TV, radio, newspaper, blogs, websites, youtube, everywhere and also very positive reviews. You know, TRAGUL even had a 2 pages interview on METAL HAMMER’s April, 2018 edition. So, I feel that TRAGUL is very appreciated and loved by the metal community to be honest which is great. I am very grateful!   What was your first concert as a fan? And what memory do you have of it? I think it was in August, 2005. When ANGRA came to my country for the first time. It was amazing, I really enjoyed, I remember I had the chance to say hi to them and also signed my shirt, it was magical!    How important are social media for you as a band? Very important! They help us a lot to stay connected with the fans as we haven’t play live yet. I think, internet is a very useful tool.   PERSONAL QUESTIONS !   Where did you grow up and how was your childhood? I grow up in San Lorenzo, Paraguay and still live there. I had a happy childhood in general. I mean I got some ups and downs like when my parents had divorced but besides that, everything was cool.   How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break clown ? I was good at the school as a child, I always had good grades to be honest. Well, at least that was until I realized that my dream was to become a musician during the adolescence, lol Then, I started to focus myself into music!   How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did they support you and how do you feel about your music today? Well, I started to listen to metal when I was 15 aprox. And my mom just accepted it, she always respected my desicions. I am proud of what I did so far, of course, I am still learning and growing but I all the music I wrote and bands I played in were important to me.   Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature? Well, I like both to be honest. It depends on my mood.   Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator? I love Soccer. I am a big fan of it, in fact, when I was younger I practiced it on some professional soccer teams until my 15th birthday then I chose to start playing music :P. Now, I enjoy playing it with my friends and also watching it. Also soccer videogames, of course!!   How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere? I think it becomes a problem when you let affect it to you. You know, critics are important to grow up but only if they are constructive. If not, you don’t need to let it affect you. Everyone has the freedom to write and think what they want, if people is negative, it’s their own problem.   What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse? It depends on you. It could be addictive and take from you a lot of time, also, you can easily get away from the real life and genuine things but it depends on you. It’s a very useful thing if you could manage it in a good way.   Paraguay A small country right in the heart of South America, usually hot but a nice place to live.    Austria I would love to visit someday! It would be great to visit MOZART’s residence museum for example!   La Santísima Trinidad de Paraná A historical place you must visit if you come here!   Saltos del Monday A perfect place to visit if you are a nature lover! There you’ll find one of the most beautiful natural places we conserve in Paraguay. If you are coming here, you MUST visit it.   Beer Occasionally   Coffe Always   Soccer FUN!   Pizza Always   Barbecue A good excuse to have a great time with the family and friends   Play Live or Studio Work Both   Movie or Series Movies. Well, I like some series but I like more to watch movies.   CD or Vinyl Both   Family A shelter   Your top 10 all time album faves Wow! This is too hard! There are too many!   The closing word is yours THANK YOU for this great interview. A lot questions but very fun! Also, thanks to the fans for the constant support!!
