Band Questions
answer by
NOCTURNITIER
Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly?
Hello, here Nocturnitier – guitarist talking, briefly saying me and Speedfire
are students and Tzar have just finished studies this year. We are metal
maniacs who combined their ideas and inspirations to make music.
What does the band name mean and how do you get it?
Band name when we were creating it was to mean nothing, it was word
made by us from the word ,,gallows“. But later we have found information
that actually gallower in Old English means little pony, so it‘s quite funny and
idiotic in a way actually.
Where and how was the band founded?
Actually me and Speedfire were playing in a traditional thrash band, and we
met Tzar on Alcohollica (cover band) gig in 2013 and decided together to
start oldschool blackened thrash metal band in vein of 1st wave black metal
mixed with teutonic thrash metal. First rehearsal as gallower was made
around summer 2014, but formally gallower exists since January 2015.
Have you played in other bands before?
Yeah as I said before me and Speedfire were playing in thrash band and
also Tzar was playing in another thrash band from another Silesian city.
Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely
with the band?
Actually not for us, because we met as a friends and we go on as a band
made by guys that understand each other. I think that this is the best way for
a band to prosper and It‘s cool!
What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them?
Lyrics are actually most complex aspect of this band. It treats about
medieval land actually called Gallower, and we create stories inside this
world. Both demo‘s are concept releases telling stories about war, witches,
cruelty, inquisition and black magic.
Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to
someone who has never heard a sound from you?
For me of course it was mainly Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, Venom,
Bathory and other german thrash metal bands like Violent Force or
Deathrow. For Tzar I think that mostly Sabbat (JPN), Bathory, Venom and
Sodom and for Speedfire I guess it was Bathory and Hellhammer.
Why should people listen to our music?
Honestly I don‘t know if the should or shouldn‘t, If someone wants to, then
he will listen that‘s all.
You have released two demo cassettes so far. Will you hear new music
from you in the near future and is planning to release it as an album?
Yeah, we are planning to release first full album as fast as possible, for now
we don‘t have sufficient money to record professionally our music. New
songs are on their way.
What was your first concert as a fan? and what memory do you have of it?
I think that it was some small band in my city, memory that the club was full
of cigarettes smoke and I was 12 years old and it was hard to be back in my
home without being accussed of smoking by my parents.
What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play?
Together we stand that our two most importants gig were – Black Silesia
Festival III sharing stage with Satan(UK), Nifelheim, Blasphemy, Nocturnal
and many more. And another gig when we were supporting Angel Witch.
These are band‘s highlights in it‘s history.
Have already resulted in friendship ?
No, actually not with the big bands, we have many friends who are playing
in bands of our underground polish metal scene.
If you'd like to play live and if you would like to ?
I think that we all as a Gallower want to play on some good metal festivals
like Brutal Assault and etc. It would be fucking awesome.
With what do you earn your money except with the music?
Me and Speedfire are studying so we only earn money on our holidays. Tzar
has finished his studies and for now he works in Capgemini.
How important are social media for you as a band?
They are helping to spread our music so I think for this modern times they
are really needed.
What would you (her) want to achieve with the band?
Finaly release our full album to and get contract with good record label, also
it would be a dream to support on some gigs our main inspirations
What do you think about the Poland metal scene in general?
I think that in Poland we have mostly death and black metal bands that do
not play in olsdchool metal style and which I am not fan of, and it lacks of
traditional thrash, speed and heavy metal bands, but young oldschool metal
scene is rising quite good and we have some really awesome bands out
here.
Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area?
Yeah of course we can, bands that are mostly young and play oldschool
metal – Raging Death, Bestiality, Incinerator, Roadhog, Necromanzer, Axe
Crazy, Frightful, Torpor, Black Hosts, Pandemic (in which also i‘m playing
for now), Gravelord, Savager, Frenatron, Haunted Cenotaph, Terrordome,
Necromastery, Pandemic Outbreak and many more.
PERSONAL QUESTIONS !
Where did you grow up and how was your childhood?
I grow up in Tychy (Silesian voivodeship near Katowice) where Gallower
was found. My childhood was quite cool, nothing special about it –
skateboarding, playing football/basketball/computer games and listening to
music or just hanging around.
How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break
clown ?
In a high school I wasn‘t neither good or bad. I was ambitious but ignored
the fact that i need to learn more and it was minimalistic.
How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did they
support you and how do you feel about your music today?
My parents are always supporting and me and I am supporting them when I
can. My father listens to metal music, together we found some oldschool
metal tapes from his collection when he was a teenager and we are
sometimes going on gigs, I guess they are proud of me. I am content of
what have we done but I am also hungry for more, ugh!
Would you be successful in making music as a musician?
Future will show this.
Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? or rather
looking for peace and relaxation in nature?
Yeah, that‘s another question that can‘t be answered in a one way. Im
studying in Cracow so it‘s big city life and I really like it, that i can just go on
a party wherever I want to, but also I like travelling and enjoying peace and
silence in a tent near a lake or something like that.
Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator?
Actually all of Gallower members are exercising something in a more or a
less way. Personally I‘m sometimes going on a gym or street workout but
mostly I‘m riding skateboard or a bike.
When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you
I love cooking, like seriously maybe im not the best but I really like it.
What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends /
family / colleagues) ?
Actually everyone supports us, even if some of my friends don‘t listen to
metal they are eager to go on our gigs and support us, and it is fucking
awesome – thank you guys!
How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to
announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere?
Mostly I ignore them but reading their comments full of shit and laugh or
smile because of it is sometimes a good deal.
What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse?
It is hard question, for me sometimes it helps, but we have to admit it that it
ruins our society.
What would you personally like to do in your life?
That was the question I ask myself for ages and I can‘t answer on it. But it
would be top 1 if I could live just on playing music.
Your top five movies
Gladiator, Interstellar, Lord of the Rings, Wolf of Wall Street, Get thrashed.
Your top 10 Bands
King Diamond (also Mercyful Fate), Running Wild, Destruction, Iron Maiden,
Kreator, Razor, Megadeth, Voivod, Sodom, Violent Force. This list can‘t be
just done for 10 bands many more should be added.
The closing word is yours?
Pray to the speed metal gods!
