Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly?
Peter: The band consists of Alexander Baron (guitar + vocals),
PeterSzemenyei (guitar + backing vocals), Alexander Gwosdz (bass)
and Marcel Dick (drums). Marcel and me are living in Cologne while
Alex B. lives in Aachen and Alex G. lives in Rösrath/Wroclaw (based on
the time of the semester). We are all 23 and 24 years of age and are
currently studying. The biggest thing we share is that we do not take
ourselves too seriously and want to have fun with the band.
What does the band name mean and how do you get it?
Peter: The band name has no specific meaning. When we were
searching for a band name Marcel was looking through his Yu-Gi-Oh
cards where he found the card "Exarion Universe" and we thought it
sounded cool. When we were first looking for a name our former second
guitarist came up with "Critical Acclaim" as in the A7X song. But after
the lineup changes Marcel and i found it proper to change the name to
something new.
Where and how was the band founded?
Peter: The band was founded in 2012 with Marcel and me being the
only two left from our founding line-up. We played on school events and
after our former bass player told us that we had a gig outside of school
we were
"officially founded".
We "re-founded" in 2014 with Alexander Baron and Marcel Lichtenstein
(bass) and Alex was not yet singing at that time.
Have you played in other bands before?
Alex B.: We all have played in our respective school bands but in no
other "serious" bands.
Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and
humanely with the band?
Peter: We were never really actively looking for band members.
Alex B.: We just teamed up with some idiots we knew.
Peter: Most of the time we were already friends before they joined the
band.
What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ?
Alex B.: Our lyrics are about historic events, death, nuclear war and
stuff like that.
Peter: The majority of the lyrics are written by Marcel but for newer
songs Alex takes over that part or simply works with lyrics Marcel has
written before and rewrites parts of it.
Which bands inspired you and how would you describe your music to
someone who has never heard a sound from you?
Alex B.: Our music is the best music of all time to ever be created in
the face of the planet. There is no inspiration. We only inspire
ourselves. We invented music.
Peter: I would not really say we got inspired by a certain band but we
try to listen to different genres of music and take the parts we like out of
it.
Please tell me something about your last album Nuke'em Down ?
Alex B.: It's the best album of all time. You should definitely check it
out. It will be the best experience you will ever have in your life.
Every time you listen to it in full length your penis will grow ten inches
permanently.
The debut album Nuke´em Down is already one year old are you
already working on new material?
Peter: Yes, we already played three new songs live this summer and
got 3 more songs finished while a few other scraps are waiting to be
finished. So it won't be long until we could theoretically record our
second album.
What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play?
Alex B.: I really liked our gig in the "Underground" in Wuppertal with
Pejora and Well Seasoned Christ.
Peter: I liked that one too. I also liked the gig in the Exit Club in
Düsseldorf. Sadly it was the day Germany played Italy in the European
Football
Championship so only 10 people were watching (not counting
the other bands). But the stage and sound were amazing and it felt
good to play that gig.
Which band would you like to play live with and why?
Alex B.: I'd really like to play with the Beatles. Sadly they don't exist
anymore. Ok, seriously: I would like to play with Guns and Roses to
sneak a peak into the first aid case of Axl Rose just to see all the drugs
he hides in there.
Have already resulted in friendship ?
Alex B.: Yo.
Peter: Yeah we met nice people on our gigs.
With what do you earn your money except with the music?
Alex. B.: We do not earn money with our music.
Peter: That's actually true. Our total earnings November 2017 (that's
when the
album came out) through May 2018 were 1.42€. So yeah,
we can already buy a Hamburger from that. Marcel is working a student
job in an office and i have
been for years but wanted to focus on my
studies to finish it faster.
Alex B.: I'm working an accommodation job during semester breaks for
an electric company.
How important are social media for you as a band?
Peter.: We have a Facebook page, a Youtube channel and a
homepage (exarion.de). Actually we hate posting stuff but have to at
least sometimes else nobody would know about us or our gigs.
What would you want to achieve with the band?
Peter: At some point we were going to take the band more serious to
"achieve
something." But that took a lot of fun out of it and at some
point i regarded it
as a job so we went back to wanting to have
funeven if we don't get famous.
Alex B.: Couldn't have said it better.
Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area?
Alex B.: First Exarion, second Exarion...did i already mention Exarion.
On a more serious note i like FabolousDesaster, Sextrow and
Tankobot.
Peter: I like the Helldozers. Sounds a lot like Motörhead and the guys
are cool.
Also Sober Truth are good and Thorsten (from Sober
Truth) really helped us a lot in the past.
PERSONAL QUESTIONS !
How was your school time you were rather the good student or the
class clown?
Peter: I was a good student but had to do nothing for it. So i had
enough time to play guitar since homework was done in less than 10
minutes most of the time.
How did your parents react when you started making metal music? did
they support you and how do you feel about your music today?
Alex B.: My parents liked it actually and they were supportive.
Peter: Till the current day my father is the biggest supporter of our
band.
Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of the big city? or
rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature?
Peter: It is nice to be in nature at some times but i think i would not like
to live far away from a big city.
Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator?
Alex B.: I jog from time to time.
Peter: I'm playing soccer once a week, do some hometraining and also
go for a run whenever i feel like it.
When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for
you
Peter: I think everybody of us can cook to a certain point except
Alex G. who let's his girlfriend cook for him. Ok, more serious: nobody
of us would starve if we got left with a kitchen and some ingredients for
basic meals.
What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal
(friends / family / colleagues) ?
Alex B.: Well it's Metal. It's already set to get the best reaction of all
time from
everyone.
How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have
to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and
everywhere?
Alex B.: We have never been confronted with that problem. Everybody
loves us.
What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse?
Peter: I think it's kind of both. It helpes with everyday life but i don't like
the
fact that (mostly younger) people seem to forget how to interact
with other
people in real life if there's no mobile phone involved.
What would you personally like to do in your life?
Peter: There is so much to do. Lots of places to travel to, fun activities
to try out. At some point i'm pretty sure i'd like to find a family and have
children but there is still plenty of time to think about that in the future.
At this point Alex G. joins the conversation after being far too late."
