AGRESIVA   THRASH METAL FROM SPAIN Band Questions answer by Miguel Coello and Samuel José
Please introduce yourself and the band members briefly? Hi! We are answering this interview Miguel Coello, guitarist/founder of the band and Samuel San José, vocals. The rest of our line up is Miguel Martín on bass and Nitro Destruction on drums. What does the band name mean and how do you get it? MC: It simply tries to represent the main characteristics of music we play; loudness, speed and power. Where and how was the band founded? MC: Madrid, 2008. Was it hard to find suitable band members who fit musically and humanely with the band? MC: Yes it was... I'm very fortunate to have Sam since almost   the very beginning and we're currently very happy and comfortable with this line up. What are the lyrics about and who of you is writing them ? SSJ: I take care of the band´s lyrics normally. And they talk about society, reflections about what surrounds us. Which bands inspired you and how would you describe yourmusic to someone who has never heard a sound from you? SSJ: We have been always inspired by many classic bands and still we allow new bands and formations to do so. We are extremely open minded for that and don´t close ourselves to new proposals. Why should people listen to our music? SSJ: I think we have a cool and original offer to the scene. We aim to mix classic heavy metal with power and thrash in a very fresh way. We don´t sound like any other band. How long did the completion of take Decibel Ritual and who was helpful to the side ? SSJ: Due to studio where we were recording moved off to another place, it took us almost a year to finish it. Beside, the record’s producers, José Garrido and Daniel Melián, work was fundamental to the album’s result. We are really satisfied with it.   Decibel Ritual released in 2017. Are the real ready new song sand when can we expect a new album? MC: Yes, we've been working very hard on the new album this year, and it will hopefully be recorded and released in 2019. You also play at Sabatan. MC: Yes, I do. Destroying the Earth is from 2013 already new song sand can we hope for a new album in the next time? MC: Unfortunately, I don't think so. Due to personal issues, the band is in "undetermined stand-by", as long as our drummer moved to Barcelona. What was your first concert as a fan? And what memory do you have of it? SSJ: It would be the Spanish band Los Suaves back in may of 1996 in the city of Mérida. It was awesome. I barely knew the band and the experience was incredible. I was so young and I really enjoyed. A bit later, in August of the same year, I attended to Iron Maiden plus Helloween, touring with two albums that I really really love. And that really blowed my mind. It was the first time I saw two of   myfavourite bands. What were your live highlights and with which bands did you play? SSJ: Playing in the U.K. two years in a row have been incredible. And, actually, we are looking forward for a third one. Also having the chance to open and share stage for Ross The Boss, Death Angel, Razor and many other bands, Spanish and foreigners, makes us feel so proud and happy. Have already resulted in friendship ? SSJ: We still keep contact with some of them. If you'd like to play live and if you would like to ? SSJ: Agresiva plays as much and as often as we can. It has granted as some good experiences in Spain and abroad, and taken us to play both with great names and great musicians. With what do you earn your money except with the music? MC: I'm a Construction Engineer, unfortunately is very hard to live from music in Spain. SSJ: And I am a civil servant. How important are social media for you as a band? MC: Very important. Nowadays, everything is made up in social networks. What would you (her) want to achieve with the band? SSJ: Pretty much like any other guys who take this business seriously. We want to play as much as possible, to be heard and to keep on making records. What do you think about the Spanish metal scene in general? MC: I think there are a lot of great bands that can't move forward as long as there is no money, no venues, and very few interested people in listening to this genre's new bands. SSJ: I think the same. We have incredible talented new bands, but few infrastructures and, sometimes, attention. Maybe you can recommend some bands from your area? MC: Of course, there are plenty of them; Rancor, Frenzy, Trallery, Vhaldemar, Omission, Crisix, Angelus Apatrida, Steelgar, and so many... SSJ: Yes, there are quite a few: In Vain, Witchtower, Mercurio, Predicador... PERSONAL QUESTIONS ! Where did you grow up and how was your childhood? MC: I was born in Madrid, I remember a happy childhood. SSJ: I was born in the south of Spain, in a city called Badajoz. I have a regular chilhood and a metalhead teenage. How was your school time you were rather the good student or the break clown ? MC: Regular student , very soon into music and Metal. SSJ: Aweful student, but never a hooligang. My only interests were music, reading, films, etc... How did your parents react when you started making metal music? Did they support you and how do you feel about your music today? MC: At first they didn't like it at all, but when they saw it was something serious, they just gave up. SSJ: Well, actually I started playing covers of popular music in my father´s band as vocalist and rythmn guitarist. So when I started some metal projects he wasn´t suprised at all. In the other hand, my mum was always there when I   was an angry youngster listening metal as loud as possible. So, for her, it was a natural process, I guess... Beside, I feel very satisfied about Agresiva’s music. I think we are a really honest band. Would you be successful in making music as a musician? MC: I'm happy and I consider myself very privileged, I like to value what I have. Are you someone who loves the hustle and bustle of   the big city? Or rather looking for peace and relaxation in nature? MC: Absolutely urban. SSJ: Half-half. I feel really confortable in the big cities, although, sometimes, one needs contact with the nature. Do you actively practice sports or are you more of a passive spectator? MC: Absolutely passive; not even spectator, I don't like sports. SSJ: Yes, I practice sports almost every single day. When it comes to your physical well you can cook or let you cook for you ? MC: I don't have too much time, but I like to cook for myself and my family. SSJ: It depends on the day and time available, but yes. I can cook simple things for myself. What does your environment tell you about your passion for metal (friends / family / colleagues)? MC: Never had a "metal environment", I always had to find people with common interests outside my close circle. SSJ: Well, as I mentioned before, my father is a musician. Beside, my brothers are too. So, more or less, they understand it as music style, like any other one. Apart from that, I have many metalfriends and in my childhood’s friendship we were mostly metalheads and such we remain. How do you see the problem with the haters on the internet who have to announce their mental garbage in anonymity always and everywhere? MC: Not interested in spending a word about haters... They suck! SSJ: They are mostly unrespectful cowards or just envious hiding behind a keyboard or smartphone. Fuck them. What do you think about the internet in general? a blessing or a curse? MC: Good one... I really don't know what to think about it, I'm sure it has advantages and disadvantages... For an underground band like Agresiva, I like to think it's mainly positive. SSJ: I think internet is full of noise. And that´s not necessary good for a band. But, unfortunately, right now, there´s not other option to show your music. What would you personally like to do in yourlife? MC: Making music, and enjoy any form of artistic expression. Which question would you like to have answered and why? SSJ: Well, I think the interview is quite alright. Spain MC: Nice country to visit, ungrateful country to live in. SSJ: For me a very nice country to live in, but, as Miguel, says, really ungrateful. Specially with its own artists. Of any sort. Austria MC: I've been just once, and I loved it! I visited Viena, Amstetten and a couple really nice medieval villages, Spitz I think was one of them... Really nice! SSJ: Never have the chance to visit it. Tortilla MC: Just love it! SSJ: Love it too. Metallica or Megadeth MC: I'd pick specific albums from both bands... SSJ: ‘tallica Tinto de Verano MC: Don't drink alcohol. SSJ: I rather have a cool beer. Kreator or Sodom MC: Kreator. SSJ: Kreator. Soccer MC: My son loves it... I hate it, that's life... SSJ: It´s alright, but there is too much obsession for it out there, sometimes, shadowing other things like live concerts. Family MC: Overrated concept Drugs MC: No drugs either, definitely not for me... SSJ: No drugs. Beer or Juice MC: Juice. SSJ: Beer. Movie or Series MC: No matter what format, if it's well done. SSJ: Same for me The closing word is yours? MC: Just thank you for the opportunity to let us express ourselves. SSJ: The same. Thanks a lot for the opportunity and, to the readers, just give us a chance and listen to our music.
